One of the applications you should definitely install on your phone is Viber, a voice and video chat application, which can easily replace Skype, due to its straightforward design. It can be installed on PCs and Macs as well and as a result, you may call your friends on their mobile devices from your Mac or vice-versa.

You can have the application up and running on your Mac in no time, but you need to have it on your mobile device, before you can use it on your desktop. Fortunately, this means that you don't have to go through a traditional account creation procedure and fill in long sign-up sheets. When launched for the first time on a Mac, Viber will ask you for your phone number, after which it will send a code to your device, which you have to insert on the desktop interface.

Once you are signed in, your contacts will appear automatically on the left side of the application's desktop interface, where you can filter them to show only Viber contacts. You can chat via short text messages with a selected contact in the central region of the window and insert various emoticons and stickers from the right side. It is also possible to start group conversations, with contacts of your choice.

Voice and video calls are Viber's main capabilities. You can find different options for voice and video calls. Connections are established right away and the quality is more than satisfying, regardless of distance. Another possibility is to call a contact directly on their mobile phone, even if they don't have Viber, but this particular feature doesn't come free.
